Spectrum Small Contour Brush, £8.99, here
When it comes to brushes, I'm actually a relative newbie to using them, only buying my first ever proper sets last year - and, like any blogger, I'm a big fan of Real Techniques. But I'm always interested in what else is out there, and when I won this Spectrum Collections Small Contour Brush, a different shape to any other brushes I own, I was excited to give it a try.
First of all a bit in love with the colours - a lot of brushes tend to be quite basic and subtle, but the playful approach to colour on these is really fun, and I can imagine having the entire set in an oversized candle jar on your dressing table would look absolutely beautiful (even if you don't have white Ikea furniture...!). It reminds me of funky alt girl hair, and the pastel shades they're girly without seeming OTT.
The major thing about this brush that's lovely is that the bristles on this are just SO SOFT. Softer than my beloved Real Techniques ones, and there's been no fall out at all. The brush is intended for precise application of contouring products or powder blush - and as I don't really contour very often, I've been using it for the latter. It took a little while to get into the swing of things using this brush, as it's different from the big ,fluffy ones I'm used to using for blush, but it's really great for applying blusher precisely and creating more of a defined, bold look. It holds a decent amount of product, but not so much that you overuse it, and you can build the colour as little or as much as you want.
Pricewise, they're on a par with Real Techniques, more affordable than some high end brushes but still offering decent quality and, if this one's anything to go by, results. I'd definitely like to pick up more from the collection and experiment with some different types of brush!
