I was recently contacted by Paula, who runs VON TRASH, an Etsy store selling a range of handmade necklaces. She kindly offered me the chance to receive two items from the store to talk about here!
Paula makes the items herself, using thick plastic, cut by hand with a tiny saw and drill, which I find super impressive - as they look so perfect, you'd think a machine had cut them! The necklaces range from simpler items like the Black Mini Sticky Mickey, to larger sized logos, including some of everyone's favourite retro TV shows. I absolutely had to go for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles necklace, as I loved it as a kid, and the MTV logo necklace fits in with the resurgence of popularity in the logo over the past year or so. Each pendant comes on a choice of silver, gold or black chains.
The quality of the necklaces is amazing - they're so well made and perfectly cut, so they'll last a long time without falling apart, which is a problem I've had with handmade accessories in the past. The detail is amazing, especially looking at the TMNT one, and I love how bright and vibrant the colours are. The long chain isn't the best for me, as I'm quite large chested and the actual pendant part hangs a little awkwardly - but they can be cut to a specific length, so if you want it shorter, you can get it tailored to your perfect length.
Paula's designs have also been noticed by celebs - Little Mix even tweeted this Fresh Prince of Bel Air necklace! I adore the retro feel of the necklaces, and they're definitely a great way to brighten up a simple outfit, and will definitely get the nostalgia and compliments rolling in! I'll definitely be working these into the outfit posts that I'm going to try and do more of, so you may well see them about on the blog in the coming weeks!
You can see the whole range here in the VON TRASH Etsy shop.
